Infrastructure

Translumina operates an own independent and redundant technical infrastructure for providing multi-media services. This infrastructure is permanently extended, as the business of the company grows.

Data Centers

Translumina operates three data centers in Zürich, Bern and Chur (Switzerland).

In addition, Translumina operates numerous points of presence in all major cities, e.g. Frankfurt (Germany) and Vienna (Austria), where the company connects to partners and subscribers.

In all three main data centers, Translumina provides collocation space for customers and partners as well as peering interconnections of up to several Gbps speeds.

IP-Backbone

Translumina operates an own backbone network based on the Internet protocol (IP).

In its core, this backbone runs at 8 Gbps, thus supporting the broadcasting of more than 2000 TV channels. The entire IP network is strictly QoS managed, i.e. the same infrastructure can be used to transport data, voice and TV services. In addition, the backbone supports multi-cast addressing schemes, which allow to scale the large numbers of subscribers.

Internet Access

The IP backbone of Translumina is interconnected via several uplink routes (running at multiple Gbps) with the world-wide Internet.

Wireless Access

In various cities in Switzerland as well as in branch networks and hotels, Translumina operates an own hot-spot infrastructure for wireless Internet access.

TV Infrastructure

Translumina operates two TV head-end stations at different locations, each equipped with multiple satellite receiver dishes.

This infrastructure allows to receive TV signals from the satellite and to prepare them multicasting over the IP backbone network. Most TV streams are available in different qualities/bandwidth configurations; they can be transmitted in high quality (up to HD quality) over fiber access networks or highly compressed over low bandwidth access lines, such as ADSL.

Of course, Translumina has obtained the rights to diseminate the related TV streams availale in its network.

Translumina operates an own middleware infrastructure supporting value added TV services, such as electronic programming guide (EPG) as well as conditional access to stream Pay-TV stations.

Voice Infrastructure

Translumina operates an own infrastructure to provide first-line telephony services in Switzerland, Germany and Austria.

This includes the support for emergency calls, the use of service numbers (0800, 0900) as well as all legal requirements such as lawful interception. Customers can connect to this telephone network by using either legacy interfaces (analog, digital or ISDN) or SIP trunk interfaces.

In addition, Translumina is able to provide voice services world-wide through national interconnection points in various countries.

The voice and telephony infrastructure supports many value added services, such as voice and fax mailboxes, conference servers, IVR and ACD.

Internet Services

Translumina operates an own infrastructure for web, e-mail and application hosting, which supports Web 2.0 and efficient collaboration and portal services.
